Cass van Dijk has always been writing, ever since she could first hold a pen (or perhaps just make a good mess with it). Over the years, she’s explored a variety of genres, but at the heart of every story is a deep curiosity about how people connect – what drives them, what holds them back, and how they change.

The Living Paradox series began with a vivid dream that wouldn’t let go. The images and ideas kept coming. While Cass was juggling work, young children, a household and the rest, Jirella simply demanded to be written.  It was a journey that moved from one scene to the next, a story of growth, power, and the struggle between light and dark.

After a series of publishing setbacks (thanks to one publisher going bankrupt and another going AWOL), Cass decided to bring Jirella back to life as an e-book. The journey wasn’t easy. It involved plenty of translating, editing and wrestling with the technology behind e-books (don’t ask about the headaches), but in the end, it was worth it to see Jirella in the world once again.
